Are you an artist without a painting?

This month I wanted to talk about masculine and feminine energies. And to be clear, I'm not talking about masculine or feminine sexual orientation or gender but energy. But instead, the yin and the yang of the energetic beings that we are, both of which we all have. Often one of these energies within us becomes stronger and as a result, we become out of balance. You may already know which one you lean towards..

I identify as a female, but often my energy leans towards the masculine. I'm organised, logical and proactive - a ‘do-er’ if you like. The qualities of our feminine energy are the opposite, quite rightly so. Our feminine side is flowing, intuitive, and grounded in the being of life. In our feminine, we receive support, nourishment and love.

But we need both. Why? Because if we only live in the doing, we miss the joy and simplicity of being, and if we're simply being, well, we wouldn't get much done. Our masculine and feminine sides provide the basis for life - for dreaming and creating. No (feminine) creative idea can come to life without the (masculine) expression of that idea. Otherwise, we'd all live as artists in our heads without any paintings to show for it.

As we come near to closing the chakra series that we've been following for the past 7 months with the moodletter, this month we look at the crown. Which is the dreamland of the chakra system, the place where we get to be in ultimate consciousness. I often thought reaching the crown chakra in my spiritual path would mean I'd hit the jackpot, I'd reached the finish line.

Over the course of my training to be a breathwork facilitator, I've journeyed through all 7 of my chakras only to realise, once I'd reached the crown, that we are all. There is no finish line. We need all to be in balance as a full, whole human. The root of the word healing is “returning to wholeness” and that is what our chakra system gives us, a path back to wholeness.  There is no crown without our roots and vice versa. As human beings, we are a conduit between the intellect and divinity above and the mother earth, grounding nature of the root (chakra) at the base of the spine; that splits in two and journeys through our legs into the soles of our feet back to nature.

We all live in a masculine world. It's logical, it's structured, and it's about doing. So it makes sense that most of us, including myself, mostly live in our heads. This is where anxiety lives, in the upward energy of our masculine. So to come back to ourselves, we need to ground, root and find a home within ourselves, within our own nature.

Do you live with anxiety? Every day or perhaps once in a while? I believe we all have anxiety in some form, and our job as humans is not to cure anxiety, but to heal the beliefs behind what makes us anxious - and strengthen our connection to our nature, finding the tools to help us manage the symptoms when they (inevitably) arise.

this month’s affirmations…

I HAVE ALL THAT I NEED

There was a glorious full moon this week, did you see it? Since sitting in on a talk with Kirsty Gallagher this summer, I have been fascinated by living by the moon. The full moon is a place to celebrate you, and this full being in Taurus (an earth sign) calls you into fully being at home within yourself and your life. So I took pen to paper and wrote a list of all the things in my life that I'm grateful for. Each statement beginning with the words "I have…" Try it yourself and see how you go.

THE HEALING HAPPENS DURING INTEGRATION

I facilitated a sleep workshop last week using Conscious Connected breathing - most of the breathers came out feeling zen but what left me most curious was the feedback from one of the breathers. Her experience left her feeling frustrated.

As you may know by now, I'm a firm believer in finding the light in the darkness. So I asked her to see the breath as a mirror and look for other areas in her life where she felt frustrated. A few days later I received a message. She'd taken her frustration from the breathe as a catalyst to realise she was wearing a suit of armour and taking on too much, and knowing something needed to give. Within a few days of the breathe, she'd ask her superiors at work to support her and create a system to off-load so it wasn't solely on her to “hold it all together”. It's a simple change, with a huge impact.

The breathwork is magic (clearly I'm a fan), but the period after the breathe (we call it integration) is where real change happens. This is where we choose, to carry on as we are, or to evolve towards our highest potential.
