Box Breathing

A simple technique that can be practiced anywhere and everywhere. This breathing pattern has saved me countless times, in moments when I need to reset and come back to myself. I use it to help me sleep, pull myself back before an anxiety attack hits or when I’m nervous before a meeting. Sound familiar? Try this…

Inhale for a count of 4

Hold your breath for a count of 4

Exhale for a count of 4

Hold your breath for a count of 4

Practice this breathing in and out through the nose. It should feel easy, if a count of 4 is too much, then reduce it to 3 or 2, the technique will still work.

Stress in a zoom meeting?

Track the edges of your laptop screen with the count, each side is a side of the box in the breathing pattern.

Worried on the tube?

Take your attention to the adverts over the windows, trace the side of the adverts like the edge of your box.

If you prefer to be guided through the technique, check out the video on my instagram page here which talks you through the technique.
